Construction specialist founder aiming to build on 30 years in business
The founder of a leading premier construction specialist marking 30 years of building dream homes across the West Midlands has set sights on further expansion.
Phil Avey, managing director of Wall Heath-based Avey & Son Ltd, struck out on his own in 1991 to cover all aspects of construction including luxury new builds, property conversion, renovations and additions, commercial and industrial buildings.
Avey & Son have delivered eye-catching conversions of historic buildings including former barns and received awards for their conservation work on listed buildings, while also delivering commercial property developments for the likes of pub giant Wetherspoons.
The firm have turned commercial buildings into luxury domestic dwellings like the former Albion Inn in Albion St, Wall Heath, along with the conversion of Lloyd Farm barns in Stourbridge Road, Penn, which became impressive homes. When the firm converted Dunsley Farm Barns in Kinver they created 13 properties ranging from three to five bedrooms.
Avey & Son has grown a reputation for its attention to detail in delivering quality work, guaranteeing a high-quality service from conception to completion. Through converting Gothic period St James’s Church in Edgbaston, they created 12 apartments, two of which were purchased as investments by an Aston Villa footballer.
In turning barns at Gothersley Farm, near Wall Heath, into five luxury holiday let properties, Avey & Son retained the original beams, which were brought up the River Severn in the 16th Century having originally been the fabric of the ships in the Spanish Armada.
To expand the Petford Tools mouldings factory in Dudley an office and viewing gallery were constructed to give visitors a bird’s eye view of the busy modern factory floor from the viewing gallery.
Phil Avey is building on the success to date to plan the next phase, engaging with potential clients looking for specialist help to recognise their dream home plans in regions around Birmingham.
Drawing upon extensive experience, Phil is proud of the company’s reputation for exceptional quality craftsmanship. “Avey & Son have the imagination to create something unique and the know how to deliver excellence,” he said. “We work in partnership with clients, suppliers and trade professionals to make dream homes come true.”
The other highlights of Avey & Son’s portfolio include the conversion of the former Whitehall Farm barns in Himley into six luxury homes, all done in sympathetic tribute to the character of the buildings but with no two properties alike.
Avey & Son are not fazed by taking on work at historic properties, having worked closely with local authority officers to return the former Armoury in Kinver, a listed building dating from the 15th century, back to life as business premises. Avey & Son’s work won the commercial historical building conversion category of a leading regional conservation and design project awards.
Their most recent work includes a stunning new build on a popular street in Wall Heath, as well as the construction of four large luxury homes on Quarry Park Road, Stourbridge.
Phil said: “Our client for one of the properties required nothing but perfection for their dream home, which was achieved with a very close working relationship, fortnightly site meetings and some excellent concept design sketches, all realised to a high standard.”
Having worked across the Black Country, Phil is now looking at delivering projects in the Wolverhampton and south Birmingham areas, including Edgbaston and Selly Oak, as well as Sutton Coldfield and Little Aston areas.
“With extensive experience of delivering projects to create homes valued at £1m and more, we are looking to branch out into these areas to make more dream homes come true,” he said.
“I have always made a point of working with people at the top of their crafts rather than generalists. We take clients every step of the way, drawing upon an extensive network of industry specialists and professionals to assist in all aspects starting at the land acquisition through to the handover.
“I love a challenge so we are open to hearing from anyone with an ambitious property dream which they would like to see brought to life.”
