London craft beer company reveals plans for new riverside taproom and brewery

A craft beer company has announced plans for a new taproom and brewery in Greenwich as part of the region’s regeneration.

Brew By Numbers has agreed a lease with regeneration specialist U+I for 6,000 sq ft of space in a refurbished warehouse near the Thames, as part of the revamp of the Morden Wharf area.

The beer company currently operates three sites across London, and is now looking to expand its food and retail offer with new investment.

The overall development is set to contribute £42m a year to the local economy, as well as more than 1,000 permanent jobs.

Richard Upton, CEO at U+I, commented: “Brew By Numbers is a perfect tenant for Morden Wharf, enabling us to pay homage to heritage of The Sea Witch pub whilst kickstarting the regeneration of an industrial site that is positively bristling with opportunity.

“When the taproom opens its doors to the people of Greenwich next year, we hope that it will fast become a favourite among the local community.

“Brew By Numbers is one of the first of many businesses that will make Morden Wharf their home over the coming years, creating hundreds of jobs that support the local economy and transform this brownfield site into a thriving new neighbourhood.”

Tom Hutchings, co-founder of Brew By Numbers, said: “We’ve spent a lot of time looking for the perfect place to deliver our long-term goal of providing one of the best drinking experiences in London.

“Morden Wharf is a unique site that offers us that opportunity, whilst also reflecting the industrial heritage of our current locations in Bermondsey and Peckham.

“We are all super excited to use the additional space to expand our range and continue on our commitment to exploratory brewing with investment in new state of the art equipment.

“The views of the Thames and across south east London are incredible; giving us the perfect backdrop to summer drinking, foodie events and small beer festivals.”
