Jobs bonanza in Dorset - but recruitment specialist asks: Where have all the jobseekers gone?

One Weymouth recruitment agency is asking “Where have all the people gone?” after experiencing a dearth of candidates for the hundreds of jobs it has available across Dorset and the wider south-west.

Frontline Recruitment, which is based at the Basepoint Business Centre in Weymouth, says the hospitality industry is set to suffer when it partially opens on April 12 and fully in May, as good quality candidates are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Karen Wisbey, Business Manager at Frontline Recruitment in Weymouth, said: “Hospitality is huge in Dorset, but we can already see the industry is going to be starved of talent as things open up and the lockdown eases.

“With most UK holidaymakers set to stay in the UK this summer because of the complications with overseas travel, we have hundreds of vacancies that we simply aren’t seeing enough good quality applicants for. We’d urge people to come and make an appointment with us so they can kickstart their career, post-Covid.”

Latest Government figures show there are some 6 million people on Universal Credit as of a 98% increase on 12 March 2020.

Frontline also has numerous vacancies for graphic designers, supply chain managers, senior mechanical design engineers, senior project managers, sales managers, customer service engineers, team leaders and Bridport-based general operatives roles.

“Many of these are permanent roles with excellent career progression,” added Karen. “We’ve seen first-hand that our clients have resumed hiring efforts amid the planned easing of Covid-19 restrictions - all we need now is the good quality candidates to return to the jobs market and take advantage of these opportunities and kickstart the Dorset economy over the summer.”
