Supporting organisations through higher and degree apprenticeships
As we reflect upon the impact of the pandemic, it helps us to understand a little more about how our environment affects individuals and organisations. For some organisations the pandemic has brought new structures to the workplace and normalised remote work. For those people that can’t work from home, or industries that depend on a steady flow of consumer footfall, the impact has undoubtedly caused a change in the job landscape. The current global situation has had its challenges. However, there has been great resilience from people and businesses, using innovation and creativity to adapt to the environment.
Can we learn from the effects of Covid-19 on the workforce to build better processes to secure careers for the future? The University of Sunderland are collaborating with employers across the region to ensure we can provide purposeful learning relevant to organisation needs. In this time of change, it is important to find solutions that can support development, progress opportunities and provide sustained growth to the business.
The University of Sunderland is internationally recognised for quality teaching and research, has been providing higher education since 1901 and was one of the first universities to introduce higher and degree apprenticeships. The University has helped businesses grow through the development of skills and knowledge relevant to job roles.
Higher and degree apprenticeships can offer fantastic opportunities and a cost-effective way of attracting and developing fresh talent to a business. Apprenticeships can provide opportunities to upskill and motivate existing employees. For the apprentice it’s an inspiring and contemporary approach to work-based learning and a great way to extend learning and skills whilst earning a salary.
Businesses can benefit from funding to assist with the employment and development of the apprentice. For levy-paying employers it’s an opportunity to attract talent to your business, train your staff and enjoy the ultimate return on investment from your levy payments. For smaller businesses, the Government will fund up to 95% of apprenticeship tuition fees. Employers can also claim an incentive payment of £3,000 for employing a new apprentice of any age before 30 September 2021.
Collaboration with the University of Sunderland allows apprentices to access world-leading academics, research, facilities and more, and an additional benefit to the employer is that they will transfer these skills and knowledge back to your organisation. Some of the most popular apprenticeships offered at the University of Sunderland include the MBA Senior Leader, Learning and Skills Teacher, BEng Engineering Practice, BSc Digital and Technology Professional and the MSc Digital and Technology Solutions Specialist.
