Rowley Ridge was formerly a listening station for MI6.

Former 'top-secret' spy base becomes Edwardian-inspired country house

A former ‘top-secret’ spy base in London has been transformed into a multi-million pound country house.

Rowley Ridge, in Arkley, was used by MI6 during World War 2 as a secret listening base, and has now been given a modern makeover.

The new country house, in the style of the original Edwardian design, is 11,000 sq ft and contains six bedrooms, as well as leisure facilities.

The original house was demolished after the war, with the site left unused until the new estate was created.

The house is for sale via Beauchamp Estates, and was created by luxury developer Domvs London.

Jon O’ Brien, chairman and CEO of Domvs London, said: “Rowley Ridge by Domvs London is an outstanding newly built house with the architectural design providing an elegant classical exterior façade, with the beautiful interiors designed around the three storey central atrium with the generously sized living spaces designed to maximise space and light.

“Set in landscaped gardens the house has been built to an exacting specification and is complete with state-of-the-art leisure facilities including home cinema, gymnasium and swimming pool.”

Rosy Khalastchy, head of Beauchamp Estates (St John’s Wood office), commented: “Set in beautiful landscaped grounds, Rowley Ridge is arguably the finest newly built country house in the Arkley area, with the beautiful interiors designed to maximise light and space, along with 5-star leisure facilities.”

Jeremy Gee, managing director of Beauchamp Estates says: “As a local resident I am naturally biased, but I truly believe that Arkley is a true leafy oasis, one of London’s most exclusive enclaves, bordered by both greenbelt countryside and the private golf course, yet only 9 miles from London’s West End.

“Arkley’s hidden role as a WW2 MI6 base adds the excitement and glamour of the Secret Services, spies and gadgets.”
