Multi-million pound Lidl development to create jobs in North Yorkshire retail park
Plans have been put forward for a new Lidl store in a growing £10m retail park in North Yorkshire.
A planning application has been submitted to Harrogate Borough Council for a new Lidl supermarket at St Michael’s Retail Park in Ripon.
If approved, 1,100 sq m store will offer a range of products including fresh and frozen food, as well as create up to 40 new full and part-time jobs.
Situated fronting Rotary Way and Ripon Bypass (A61), the £10 million retail park launched in July last year, when anchor tenant M&S Foodhall opened its new store.
A spokesperson from Lidl GB commented: “Many people have welcomed the proposed Lidl store, which would bring competition, increasing choice and providing a boost to the local economy through job creation.
“Many also mentioned that a store on this site would reduce the need to travel out of the city to shop and therefore keep expenditure in Ripon.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support so far and we look forward to further sharing and discussing our plans with them.”
Mark Rothery, managing director of Rothstone Estates, added: “I would like to thank everyone who took part in our consultation and we’re pleased with the positive response overall.
“The proposals represent a major investment in the city and will complement the M&S Foodhall.”
