The new Cash Converters store in Darlington

Darlington pawnbroker relocates to city centre in high street investment move

A North East pawnbroker has announced that it is moving to a new store as part of its commitment to investing in the country’s high streets.

Cash Converters, which is based in Australia and has nearly 200 franchises across the UK, is moving its Darlington store from its former location on Skinnergate to new premises on Prospect Place.

The new store has 960 sq ft of retail space, with three counters for customers to sell unwanted items, as well as a dedicated retail area to display items available to purchase.

The relocation, which is expected to increase footfall to the store, is part of the brand’s wider commitment to investing in Britain’s high streets.

Steve Smith, owner and franchisee of the Darlington store, said: “We’re delighted to have secured such a prominent town centre spot for our new store, which we’re confident will allow us to reach a wider customer base and is just round the corner from our former location.

“We’re rapidly approaching our ten-year anniversary of the Cash Converters Darlington store, so this move close to the town centre is a big part of further integration in the local community.”

Chad Walker, operations manager at the franchise, added: “While we loved our former store in Skinnergate, we couldn’t benefit from an influx of passing trade, so we’re really looking forward to attracting some new faces in store – as well as welcoming back our regulars.

“This latest move aligns really closely with our wider priorities as a business; we want to build on the return to the high street we’ve seen post-lockdown, and hopefully our move to Prospect Place will help the Darlington store to further support this.”
