Eddisons invests in new talent with three student placement hires

Property consultant Eddisons has appointed three placement-year students from the BSc building surveying courses at Sheffield Hallam and Northumbria universities.

Third-year students Samuel Pearson and George Greenwood-Bartlett are both at Sheffield Hallam while Eleanor Kent is at Northumbria. All three have joined the firm’s growing building and project consultancy team, led nationally from Eddisons’ Leeds head office by partner Ian Harrington.

The triple hire marks continued expansion for Eddisons’ student placement programme, which until 2019 had appointed one building surveying student each year to work with the firm for 12 months, before returning to university to complete the final year of their degree.

Ian Harrington said: “The building and project consultancy team is particularly busy at present with a raft of structural improvement projects to deliver for schools and other clients, and so it made good sense for us to expand the programme and take on three students this year. We are really pleased to welcome Eleanor, George and Samuel on board: all three are extremely high-calibre candidates and they have done really well to be selected after a very competitive recruitment process.”

He added: “It’s essential to the future and quality of surveying in this country that firms like Eddisons provide a third-year placement opportunity for building surveying undergraduates as part of their four-year course. We work with universities across the north of England, especially Sheffield Hallam, Northumbria and Leeds Beckett.

“While the skills and hands-on experience the students gain in the workplace is invaluable to their future careers, they do almost always return to us as graduate surveyors to take up a role within the firm. So our student placement programme also delivers great continuity and is very often the first step in the long-term relationship we develop with these talented young people.”

Eddisons building and project consultancy team has worked with schools and colleges across the UK since 2016, securing more than £150m of funding for school building refurbishment projects under the Government’s Condition Improvement Fund programme, as well as delivering the projects on the ground.
