Rotherham beauty business expands with warehouse acquisition

**UKSE funding supports sugaring business relocation **

A Rotherham-based beauty business which specialises in manufacturing sugaring paste has acquired new 1000 sq. ft warehouse premises in order to accommodate its expanding product range and new training arm.

Boasting an established global customer base spanning Hong Kong, Sweden, Slovenia, Canada, the US and Estonia, and specialising in a bespoke beauty treatment known as sugaring, The Sukar Company was taken over by entrepreneurs Claire Hallam and Chantelle Coughlan in August 2020.

Facilitated by a Kickstart grant from UKSE, the business moved into the new space in February of this year. The six-year lease will give the team access to two beauty rooms, a kitchen, an office and a manufacturing and distribution warehouse.

Formerly located in a less developed building in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, the new warehouse space based in Maltby, Rotherham will allow NHS nurse Chantelle to offer cosmetic procedures in the “Skinthetics Aesthetics & Skincare” room including Botox and fillers, as well as “The Nail Room” run by Jo Brookes offering all things nails.

The duo are also in the process of launching their dedicated training arm which will provide other beauticians and sugaring technicians with the necessary skills to perform the sugaring technique. The pair are in the process of getting their training accredited and will be available in partnership with Zest Health & Beauty Academy.

Reflecting on the new business venture, Claire Hallam of The Sukar Company commented: “We’re taking a local approach to the business, outsourcing all of our packaging and labels from businesses close-by in Doncaster and Rotherham. It’s important to us that we support local businesses after what has been an incredibly difficult year.

“The grant we received from UKSE has helped immensely with our relocation to South Yorkshire, as it enabled us to purchase signage for the front of the warehouse, rebrand our products and set up our website.

“Despite the uncertainties presented by this past year, I’m optimistic for what’s to come. Our ambition is to begin a training course for those wishing to learn and practice the sugaring technique, as well as increasing the range of products on offer to customers.”

Steve Lyon at UKSE said: “It’s great to support Claire and Chantelle in their new venture, The Sukar Company, and I like how they are sourcing their supplies from local businesses.”

UKSE also provides loan and equity finance of up to £1m to existing companies which are growing, particularly those creating jobs – for further information please contact the team on 0800 915 1188.
