Senior Leaders - from the boardroom to the classroom!

As businesses come to terms with the effects of the pandemic and the recovery from it, leadership skills have never been more critical. Strategies to manage team empowerment and motivation, empathy and emotional intelligence alongside problem solving and organisational skills are key to future success.

It is vital for organisations to not only have leaders in place with the right skillset but, also to start developing a pipeline of high-quality talent ready to move into these roles when required.

Work-based learning programmes such as apprenticeships offer businesses a flexible work related option to develop their workforce. They enable the connection between the academic learning and application in the workplace.

There has never been a better time to develop your leadership teams!

The Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship (MBA)

The University of Sunderland have re-designed their Senior Leader Apprenticeship which incorporates a MBA qualification in collaboration with industry around the new standards. This programme offers employers a cost-effective opportunity to develop agile, strategic leaders with the ability to contribute to sustainable strategic objectives in a digital world.

The Senior Leader Apprenticeship is designed for anybody operating in a senior or strategic role within their organisation or who are progressing into this type of role.

David Pearson, the Programme Lead for the Senior Leader Apprenticeship highlights “The wide variety of backgrounds and organisations on programme allows for a rich and meaningful debate about the issues and solutions that impact senior leaders every day.

As the world in which we live and work changes, it is important that the programme reflects this and incorporates more sustainable and digital strategies that also promote the development and wellbeing of employees.“

The Senior Leader Apprenticeship is a 2-year programme which encompasses the strategic skills required of senior leaders but does not exclude those softer skills that are often found lacking. It explores leadership and leader identity and what this means to each individual in the context of their organisation. The programme will then harness the knowledge and skills allowing leaders to develop and sustain high performance working through their team by encompassing those important soft skills.

The programme offers a flexible blended delivery model. University attendance is one day per month along with online and directed learning.

Businesses can benefit from funding to support apprenticeships. For levy-paying employers it’s an opportunity to attract talent to your business, train your staff and enjoy the ultimate return on investment from your levy payments. For smaller businesses, the Government will fund up to 95% of apprenticeship tuition fees.

Employers can also claim an incentive payment of £3,000 for new employees joining the company before 30 September 2021 and signing up to an apprenticeship.

The Senior Leader MBA apprenticeship programme is due to start September 2021. There is an opportunity to discuss the programme in detail at our information event taking place on Tuesday 20th July.
