Donation supports outdoor reading time at Bicester school
Pupils at St Edburg’s Church of England Primary School are celebrating following the donation of a reading arbour from local housebuilder, CALA Homes.
CALA Homes, which is building a collection of contemporary three and four bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached homes and stylish two-bedroom apartments at the Kingsmere development, has provided an arbour for the school’s eco garden, for children who prefer to take part in quieter activities during lunch and break time.
St Edburg’s joined the Kingsmere community in 2016 but has been part of Bicester for hundreds of years. The school will be opening a second site at Kingsmere in September 2023 for early years and Key Stage One pupils, as well as a nursery for children from the age of two.
Margaret Kunzer, head teacher at St Edburg’s School, said: “We are so grateful to CALA Homes for purchasing the arbour for our school playground. While many of our pupils enjoy burning off some energy at playtime, many are happy to sit and get stuck into a book or have some quiet time to chat to friends – and with the development of our new eco garden, they’ll also have the benefit of being surrounded by some wonderful plants and wildlife.”
Neil Simpson, Sales and Marketing Director at CALA Homes Midlands, adds: “We were pleased to be able to support St Edburg’s by providing them with the reading arbour, and we hope the children make the most of the space and that it gives them the opportunity to spend their break time doing what they enjoy best.
“We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build and will continue to work closely with St Edburg’s and the local community to support local people throughout our construction programme.
“Our homes at Kingsmere have proven popular with local house hunters, who have been quick to snap up the homes and we have seen many families choosing to move to the development to make the most of everything it has to offer. We have also recently launched a new play area, which we hope will be enjoyed by many children on the development.”
