This week's Yorkshire appointments

Stephen Marriott, Scarborough Group International (SGI)

Scarborough Group International (SGI) has appointed Stephen Marriott as director of operations at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.

In his new role, Stephen will oversee the development of the company’s operations at the Park, including the building of community links.

Stephen arrives at SGI with a background in key leadership roles in the hospitality sector, and has previously worked with SGI as general manager of the Copthorne Hotel Bramall Lane in Sheffield.

Mark Jackson, development director at SGI, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Stephen to the team.

“He has an exceptional track record of overseeing large real estate and hospitality projects and his experience will be invaluable as we deliver the vital regeneration at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.”

Stephen Marriott, director of operations at SGI, added: “We have an opportunity to create a real sense of community with local residents and businesses as we deliver the new stadium, offices, and retail space at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park and I’m excited to be getting involved at such an early stage of the scheme.

“Being part of the next phase of development is extremely exciting. One of my daughters is keen on athletics so it’s very possible I’ll be cheering her on soon at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park junior parkrun!”

Stephanie Kaye, Tanya Foran and Bridie Sanderson, Clarion

Law firm Clarion has promoted three members of its Leeds team.

Stephanie Kaye has been promoted to legal director, while Tanya Foran and Bridie Sanderson have been promoted to associates.

Stephanie, who leads Clarion’s court of protection costs service, has worked at Clarion for the past eight years.

Having progressed through the CILEx qualified route, Stephanie has helped the team gain recognition as a standout provided for Court of Protection costs work in the UK. As well as helping to manage numerous client relationships, she oversees seven of the firm’s apprentices.

Stephanie was recently appointed to the Working Group of the Professional Deputies Forum (PDF), a national not-for-profit body which acts as the ‘voice’ of professional deputies and campaigns for positive change in Court of Protection matters. Stephanie was also recognised as a ‘Rising Star’ in Chambers and Partners 2020.

Tanya specialises in Court of Protection Costs with a focus on increasing recovery rates. She deals with general management bills, statutory wills and applications, and is skilled in preparing bills of costs for assessment.

Bridie has experience of preparing bills of costs for general management, deputyship applications and statutory will applications. She also assists with providing Office of the Public Guardian breakdowns and advises on Court of Protection billing-related queries.

Andrew McAulay, partner and head of the costs and litigation funding team, said: “With our legal costs services continuing to go from strength to strength, I am pleased to see key members of the team progressing in this way.

“There’s no doubt that Stephanie has been an important driver in our success, she’s a great all-rounder as well as being recognised as a national expert in the field of Court of Protection Costs.

“Her career route makes Stephanie an inspiring role model and she has taken on a valuable mentoring and management role with more junior colleagues, helping them to enhance their skills.

“It’s also satisfying to see two of our talented legal services team, Tanya and Bridie, being rewarded for their important contribution to the team – we look forward to them continuing to develop their careers with Clarion.”

Paul Colman and Dan Snedden, Weightmans

Law firm Weightmans has appointed Paul Colman and Dan Snedden as principal associate and associate respectively.

Paul joins from Wrigley’s Solicitors with a range of private client knowledge, providing specialist tax and trusts advice for individuals and their families, in particular for land, property and business owners.

Dan arrives at the firm from Berwins, specialising in Court of Protection work - assisting individuals, their families and significant others with capacity issues, providing support where it is needed and empowering independence wherever possible.

Partner and head of wills, trusts and estates at Weightmans, Richard Bate, commented: “We have now been in Leeds for six years, and in that time have watched the team grow substantially to one that now offers a full range of technical expertise across various areas of estate planning and wealth management.

“Dan and Paul are fantastic lawyers and well known for their skills in their respective areas, ensuring clients’ wishes are met and respected, as well as dealing with challenging and sensitive issues for some of the most vulnerable.

“It is a pleasure to welcome them to the national team and in particular the Leeds office, where their knowledge and experience will offer an entirely new set of services to the region, offering a one stop shop for wills, trusts and tax advice.”

Keith Hunter, Agencia

Yorkshire-based Agencia has appointed Keith Hunter as its lead director of justice, policing and security.

Former police and crime commissioner Keith served with Humberside Police for 30 years and reached the rank of chief superintendent before retiring in 2011 and, having qualified to become a chief officer, decided instead to pursue his ambitions in governance and oversight.

Keith missed out on the Labour nomination for the Humberside PCC election in 2011 and instead supported Lord Prescott in an unsuccessful campaign. He then joined Agencia as a consultant but gave up that post in 2016 when he fought and won the next PCC poll.

Keith commented: “It’s been a tough year for organisations like Agencia who deliver more than half their work internationally. I will be working to develop the offer of justice, policing and security not just internationally but also look at what more we can do within our own borders.”

“Agencia are well established, some of the things they do are remarkable and I love their values based approach. They have something unique with the focus on transforming lives and engineering sustainable change. They leave a legacy wherever they work and they have a very high level of repeat business.

“They already have a Serious Crime Directorate which carries out anti-corruption work and has a high level financial investigation capability. We can advise countries or organisations on how to develop their own investigation capabilities and improve their understanding of systems and processes when things go wrong.”

Kyle Daniel, SHIFT Marketplace

Online marketplace specialist SHIFT Marketplace has appointed Kyle Daniel as growth director.

Former Amazon partner manager Kyle will draw on his experience working across high-growth brands to maximise client revenues, increase brand awareness and power international territory expansion.

SHIFT Marketplace’s co-founder and managing director, Steven Berke, commented: “Kyle has a proven track record of scaling brands to multiple millions in revenue, whilst maximising performance across a multitude of Amazon territories.

“His ability to grow profits through high quality, strategic brand analysis, product range development and territory expansion is second-to-none, and we’re excited to welcome him to the team as our own and our clients’ businesses continue to experience growth in the digital retail space.”

Kyle added: “SHIFT Marketplace has been on my radar for quite some time, due to its unique approach and ability to secure phenomenal results for its clients.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the team, and looking forward to playing my role in the ongoing, global success of SHIFT Marketplace and that of its impressive client portfolio.”
