Northumberland council makes £84k green investment into new leisure centre
A North East council has today announced that it is investing £84k into the sustainability of a new leisure centre.
Northumberland County Council has confirmed today (July 15) that it has agreed on an £84k green investment for the new Morpeth Leisure Centre.
The investment will see the £21m leisure centre have solar photovoltaic panels installed, with the centre set to be completed by summer 2022.
The site will also use renewable heating from air source heat pumps, which will be powered by the solar panels.
Glen Sanderson, leader of Northumberland County Council, commented: “We are committed to investing in green energy within our council estate, which will help us reach our promise to halve all council emissions over the next four years.
“Agreeing installation of solar panels at the new Morpeth Leisure Centre is an exciting step towards reaching our goal.”
David Bawn, ward councillor for Morpeth North, added: “The new centre will be a real asset for the town and a wonderful place, with great facilities, for residents and visitors to enjoy for many years to come.”
