Mama Bamboo achieves “Best for the World” B Corp recognition for performance excellence beyond just profit

Eco disposable nappy company, Mama Bamboo, a Certified B Corp, has been named a Best for the World™ B Corp in recognition of its exemplary performance beyond profit. Ranking in the top 5% of all B Corps in its size group worldwide for its sustainable business practices, Mama Bamboo has earned this honour in the Environment category by putting the impact on the environment first.

Mama Bamboo has worked hard for its B Corp status. Its nappies and wipes are made from organically grown and sustainably harvested bamboo with chlorine free pulp and fully compostable liners. The nappies are free from chlorine, latex, phthalates and PVC unlike standard plastic disposable nappies and packaged in 100% compostable plant-based film. The wipes are hypoallergenic, vegan certified and cruelty free and will compost completely in just six months.

“We are very proud of our B Corp status and even more excited to have won recognition in the Environment category as part of its Best for the World recognition. We have worked hard to ensure that our nappies and wipes are made from sustainable materials and we are proud to be the only nappy company in the UK to use compostable packaging for our nappies and wipes.

“As a B Corp certified business, we ensure that our environmental work remains integral and core to our business. For example, we use only FSC certified bamboo for our nappies and wipes and we offset our carbon footprint and stay carbon neutral through our afforestation programme with the Ugandan Bamboo Village project which we support. We also use bio-fuel freighting and an electric courier fleet for our deliveries.

“In addition, we are working with University College London and Made of Waste on a research project to improve bio-plastic composting across the UK for all consumers. We also run the #nappyrevolution change online calling on DEFRA to ban all nappy and wipe waste going to landfill or incinerator by 2025. This is not about greenwashing – we are looking for long term solutions to a serious issue.”

The Best for the World recognition is administered by B Lab, the global non-profit network that certifies and mobilises Certified B Corporations, which are for-profit companies that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Today there are more than 4,000 Certified B Corporations across 77 countries and 153 industries, unified by one common goal: transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet.
