Plans for UK's first "major" zero emissions project revealed in London

Plans have been unveiled to create the UK’s first “major” regeneration project to create zero emissions in London.

Native London, along with its partners, has revealed its sustainability strategy for Bankside Yards, which will be powered by a low-temperature electric ‘5th Generation’ energy network.

The 1.4 million sq ft mixed-use development will balance thermal energy across its 8 new buildings and 14 restored railway arches, with each building extracting or rejecting energy into the network.

The plans are set to achieve net zero carbon in operation across the site, which is set to see its first building completed in mid-2022.

Alasdair Nicholls, chief executive of Native Land, commented: “At Bankside Yards we are using energy-efficient technology on an unprecedented scale, aiming to set a new benchmark for sustainability in large, mixed-use regeneration schemes.

“This is part of an integrated, site-wide, multi-building strategy for carbon reduction and biodiversity.”
