Carolyn Shuetz, OakNorth Bank

OakNorth Bank has announced the appointment of Carolyn Schuetz to its board as a non-executive director.

With over 30 years of global financial services experience, Carolyn is an industry veteran with a track record of delivering large-scale transformational change and creating new ventures.

Early in her career, she started and scaled her own business, Cypress Knowledge, a corporate consultancy advising senior executives at early stage financial and technology companies in Silicon Valley on strategy, funding and business development.

Carolyn also worked with Charles Schwab & Co to help build their first-generation digital brokerage services platform.

For the past 16 years, she was at HSBC, most recently as the chief operating officer for group retail banking and wealth management.

Joel Perlman, co-founder of OakNorth Bank, commented: “Carolyn has several decades of varied and highly relevant experience across technology and financial services.

“She also has experience as an entrepreneur which is clearly aligned with our mission and the customers we serve.

“We are excited to be welcoming her to the board and look forward to her valuable contribution.”

Carolyn Schuetz added: “Having started and scaled my own business, I’m acutely aware of the challenges business owners face when it comes to accessing fast, flexible finance.

“This is one of the primary reasons that OakNorth’s mission and unique approach really resonates with me.

“I’ve been following the bank’s incredible growth story for the last few years and am excited to now be a part of it. I look forward to working with the team and supporting entrepreneurs in their growth ambitions.”

Kate Selwyn, Rosalie Shepherd and Ryan Mitchell, Forresters

Intellectual property firm Forresters has announced that it has appointed three new patent attorneys after they passed their exams.

Kate Selwyn and Dr Rosalie Shepherd, who are already UK qualified associates of the firm, have passed their European Qualifying Examinations (EQEs) to become fully qualified European patent attorneys.

At the same time trainee Dr Ryan Mitchell passed his UK finals and EQEs to also become a dual UK and European patent attorney and associate within the firm.

Kate commented: “I am delighted to have passed all of my EQE exams thereby qualifying as a European Patent Attorney.

“It has been a difficult 18 months with the cancellation of the exams in 2020 due to Covid-19, having to revise for the exams whilst the UK was in lockdown, and having to adapt to the new online format of the exams.

“Therefore, I am very pleased to have passed all the exams despite the challenging circumstances.”

Rosalie said: “I am thrilled to have passed all of the EQE final exams and to now be a qualified European Patent Attorney.

“Sitting the exams during lockdown and getting to grips with the technology requirements that came with sitting the exams online added an extra challenge, and needless to say it is such a relief to have passed.”

Ryan added: “After five years of working at Forresters, numerous exams and a global pandemic, I am delighted to have passed all of my EQE final exams.

“Exam preparation is never easy, but adding a year’s long delay due to Covid-induced cancellation of the 2020 exams and a new online 2021 exam format to the mix made the preparations all the more challenging.

“Thus, I am very happy to have come out the other side a qualified UK and European patent attorney. Congratulations to all my colleagues also celebrating exam passes.”
