Students go further at Newcastle Sixth Form College
Newcastle Sixth Form College students are celebrating an exceptional set of results at A Level following two very challenging academic years due to the disruption caused by the global pandemic. Across a wide range of subjects our students have achieved excellent results and this year will see a record percentage of our sixth formers progressing to university.
These results maintain the college’s position in the top 25% nationally for A Level progress for the third consecutive year. A recent Sixth Form Colleges Association report, revealed that students at Newcastle Sixth Form College are 18% more likely to progress to university than the national average. This shows that the work by students and staff really helps our students go further, and this year will ensure many more sixth form students have the opportunity to progress into Higher Education.
Gerard Garvey, Principal at Newcastle Sixth Form College commented:
‘These are a fantastic set of results for our students and well deserved. As a college we have worked extremely hard over the last 18 months to ensure we prioritised face-to-face academic teaching, and this approach and the support offered to our students has enabled so many of our students to get the results they deserve. The response from our students has been overwhelming, and confirms that we are succeeding in our mission to provide a college experience which ensures they go further.’
‘It is also excellent to see our A*-C grades breaking new records across such a diverse range of subjects, from our Maths and Physics results through to Spanish, Politics and Graphic Design, our results will continue to be among the best in the region. One of the major benefits of attending Newcastle Sixth Form is the wide range of subjects you can study at A Level, with over 25 different subjects on offer. To perform at such a high level across our STEM, Arts, Modern Foreign Languages and Humanities subjects shows that every student attending the college has been able to achieve the sort of progress at A Level and the higher level of results which reflect their real abilities.’
