Refurbishment plans revealed for "world-famous" London insurance building

A London insurance firm has announced that it will be implementing a refurbishment of its “world-famous” building.

Lloyd’s of London, in the centre of the city, will be undergoing a redesign of its main internal space in response to an increased demand for flexible working patterns.

The offices, which are on Lime Street, were granted a Grade 1 listing in 2011, with Lloyd’s now revealing plans to overhaul the three-storey Underwriting Room at the centre of the building.

A spokesperson for the company said: ‘We have embarked on a once-in-a-generation journey to redesign the iconic Underwriting Room and supporting spaces in the Lloyd’s building.

“The decision to undertake this journey has been driven by the increasing trends of flexible working and digitalisation, which have been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

’Through Q1 2021 we completed an extensive market consultation to gather insights and ideas about the future requirements for spaces and services our marketplace needs.

“Currently, like many other organisations, we are considering a range of options around our workspace strategy and the future leasing arrangements for Lloyd’s.”
