Multi-million pound investment to create dozens of new jobs at Yorkshire agricultural business
A family-run Yorkshire agricultural business has announced 75 new jobs to support its expansion plans.
Sedamyl, which is based in Selby and manufactures proteins, alcohol, starches and sweeteners, has announced an £80m investment which will see the plant double its potable alcohol capacity and add new lines for the production of liquid sweeteners.
The expansion plans will also see Sedamyl double its UK production, add new product lines, and provide an increased market for wheat grown by local farmers. The Italian firm, which started as a fruit distillery in Piedmont in the 1950s, expanded into the UK in 2012 and has since expanded its workforce from 40 people to almost 100.
Elena Frandino, managing director at Sedamyl and member of the family who has owned the business since the 1960s, said: “Over the years we have built a solid reputation in Selby and are now a major local employer, and that is all down to our incredible team of dedicated staff.”
She continued: “The latest development means we can continue to recruit to support our team and the local economy, whilst maintaining our position as one of the leading UK manufacturers of sweeteners, starches and derivatives.”
As well as new jobs at Sedamyl, the company has recently been shortlisted in the Emerging Business at the 2021 Food and Drink Awards in recognition of its growth and investment in the business.
