Luxury retailer Nest sees surge in orders thanks to ‘Staycation Boom’
A Yorkshire retailer which specialises in luxury furniture and lighting says it has seen a surge in commercial orders from boutique hotels and popular self-contained accommodation venues over the summer as Britons opt for staycation breaks.
Sheffield-based Nest says the increase in enquiries has been fuelled by the growing number of people booking hotels within holiday and weekend break hotspots during the summer months.
While the government traffic light scheme has allowed some holidaymakers to travel to countries awarded a ‘green’ status since the restrictions started to ease in April, the ongoing uncertainty around restrictions imposed abroad has prompted many to stay local.
As a result, UK staycation sites have reported a record number of bookings. According to Nest, furniture and lighting installation works have taken place over the summer on several leisure and tourism projects, at a value of more than £50k.
Recently fulfilled orders also include the Pilgrim Hotel in London, as well as numerous collaborations with Hilton Hotels.
Throughout the lockdown period, the team has also worked to furnish The West Nest holiday cottage on the Isle of Skye, a guest house in Cornwall, and a newly opened boutique hotel in Liverpool city centre’s fashionable Ropewalks district.
Gemma Trebble from Nest said: “Due to the ongoing uncertainty around travel as a result of the pandemic, many families are choosing to stay local in 2021 rather than risk missing out.
This has resulted in a huge surge in bookings for our customers, many of whom have taken the opportunity to spruce up their interiors ahead of the increase in footfall.“
Gordon Shaw, the owner of The West Nest holiday cottage in Skye, said: “When we were sourcing interior pieces for our new holiday cottage The West Nest, we knew the team at our namesake Nest would spoil us for choice with their impeccable selection of design icons.
“Once we landed on our final choices, Trade Contracts Manager, Gemma helped us bring our vision to life and worked with us to meet our tight delivery timescales, even to our remote wee corner of Skye.
“Thank you, Gemma, and Nest!”
Nest was founded in 2003 as a luxury furniture and lighting retailer. The company developed the Nest Contracts division which leads the leisure and tourism projects and has worked extensively with hotels and guest accommodation providers to furnish holiday lets ever since; becoming the go-to name businesses in the leisure and tourism sector choose to furnish their establishments with high-quality fixtures and fittings.
Nest’s dedicated Contracts website went live in October 2020, and has been very well received, attracting new subscribers, and boosting sales. The Contracts site offers exclusive access to the leading international furniture and lighting brands, making it ideal for those looking to furnish holiday lets.
Gemma Trebble from the Nest Contracts team commented: “Although it is a shame that many people have not had their holiday abroad this year, it has provided us with an exciting chance to take a break in some of the most gorgeous holiday destinations right here in Britain.
“Our focus has been on self-contained holiday lets, a promising aspect of this staycation boom due to the way they offer the opportunity for families to have a break, but also are ideal for those still mindful of social distancing.
“Furnishing holiday homes is always exciting because there is often more freedom to experiment. It’s no surprise that the pieces on offer at Nest perfectly complement the luxurious style many wish to project throughout their holiday lets and apartments.”
