Mental Health Organisation Calls for Awareness of Mental Health Issues in the Local Area
One of Nottinghamshire’s mental health service providers, Insight IAPT, is launching a new campaign to encourage the local community to support friends or family with their mental health.
Statistics show that one in four people will suffer with mental health problems during their lifetime, with one in five people having suicidal thoughts.
Insight IAPT, which provides free, NHS-funded talking therapies in Nottinghamshire, is giving people information about how to keep an eye out for their friends and loved ones and be aware of the signs that someone might be struggling with their mental health.
In response to the increase in mental health issues following the pandemic, Insight IAPT has launched a new campaign that will provide special beer mats in pubs, adverts in local press, and share guides and advice on the common symptoms of depression and anxiety - all to raise awareness of how to get help and improve the overall mental wellbeing of the community.
Common signs that someone is struggling with mental ill-health can include becoming distant from friends and family; drinking or smoking more than usual; having disturbed sleep; complaining of aches and pains; or talking about feeling hopeless, helpless, or worthless.
Insight IAPT will also be talking to local businesses, charities, and other organisations in the area to share knowledge and highlight the importance of accessing help when it’s needed.
Martha Highton, Community Engagement Manager at Insight IAPT, said: “We’ve seen an increase in people experiencing mental health problems in the area, especially in the last year as we continue to deal with the lasting effects of the pandemic. That is why it is incredibly important that we help people to feel confident in supporting friends or family who might be struggling.
“It’s our goal that no one struggles with their mental health alone, and free support is available for everyone who needs it. If anyone does see any worrying signs in themselves, in friends or loved ones, Insight IAPT is here to help.”
