Sheffield law firm joins fight against energy mis-selling

SSB Group has become the latest law firm to join Business Energy Claims in the fight against business energy mis-selling.

The fast-growing Sheffield-based firm specialises in commercial litigation and has expertise that strengthens Business Energy Claims’ panel of law firms. It will provide valuable support to clients as claims are progressed against energy brokers and suppliers.

Business Energy Claims Chief Executive Callum Thompson said: “SSB is a fantastic addition to our portfolio of law firms and one which will be of great benefit to our clients.

“It is important that we have partners we trust and who can assist us to recover the money which is rightfully our clients and ensure those who misled them are brought to justice.

“We are determined to continue the fight against energy mis-selling. The disreputable practices of energy brokers and suppliers sadly looks set to continue for some time yet, despite Ofgem’s investigation into their practices.

“The current issues around the supply and price of gas are causing considerable concern for businesses, worried about their overheads and this makes it even more important that the best deal possible is negotiated, free for excessive broker commissions.”

The cost of energy to a business customer is usually a significant proportion of its overheads. The levels of undisclosed commission, and the extent of other aspects of mis-selling has meant Business Energy Claims, has seen instances of customers going out of business or being at risk of going out of business as a result of the sharp practice employed by energy brokers.

Jeremy Brooke, Group CEO at SSB Law said: “The mis-selling of energy contracts to businesses is a scandal, at a time when so many are feeling the financial pinch of the pandemic, rising wages and inflation.

“Business Energy Claims has an experienced team and we are pleased to have the opportunity to work with them and their clients to ensure rogue brokers and suppliers are brought to account.”
