Vagabond set to uncork brand-new Birmingham wine bar
A brand-new and exclusive wine bar is set to open its doors in Birmingham this autumn. Situated in the heart of the city’s Colmore Business District (Colmore BID), Vagabond will be serving up a unique way to discover hundreds of wines by the glass in a stunning and central location.
Having already enjoyed tremendous success in London, Vagabond’s latest site marks its first opening outside of the capital. The 4,000 sq. ft, 200+ capacity Birmingham bar will offer guests a selection of wines from around the world, including Vagabond’s own English Wines that are made in its Urban Winery in South West London.
All wines are available via Vagabond’s iconic self-dispensing wine machines, which the brand has pioneered since opening its first wine bar in Fulham in 2010. The innovative machines can be controlled via an app on guests’ phones: ensuring that the power – and the glass – is always in the guests’ hands.
The venue will be located on 3 Colmore Row and is set to be Vagabond’s 10th venue.
Its senior team is looking forward to the brand’s Midlands debut – in particular, Vagabond’s Managing Director, Matt Fleming, who grew up in Birmingham. Speaking about the launch, Matt says:
“We’re seriously thrilled to be opening our newest bar in Birmingham. We’ve had our eyes on national – and international – expansion since before the pandemic, and Birmingham has always been marked as our first non-London opening. My own love for the city aside; it has one of the best food and drink scenes in the UK and we think Vagabond will fit in perfectly with its wine-loving residents. The growth of the F&B sector in the city over the years is truly exciting, and we can’t wait to be a part of its future. Plus, now my mom now has somewhere to enjoy a great glass of wine!”
Having launched its first bar over a decade ago in Fulham, Vagabond now has its sights set on serving up an extensive wine list in Birmingham – which includes its own English wines, expertly developed in its urban winery in Battersea Power Station – as well as a selection of 10 self-poured draught beers, spirits, an expertly crafted cocktail menu and food items.
The news isn’t just welcome for the city’s wine-drinkers either: after a difficult year for Birmingham’s F&B sector, the brand-new bar is proud to be creating 14 new hospitality roles. Vagabond has appointed Anna Slaby as its newest General Manager, who has worked in the industry for 18 years; four of which have been in Birmingham.
“It feels so good to be back in my home city and to have the opportunity to bring our extensive array of wines to the people of Birmingham. I know I speak on behalf of the entire Vagabond team when I say that we are really looking forward to sharing this concept, in a way that makes wine-tasting an interactive and accessible experience for all,” added Matt.
Vagabond Birmingham will be open seven days a week and is set to open to the public from Friday 22 October 2021.
