New lease of life for iconic Art Deco building in West Bromwich as it’s transformed into luxury apartments
Work is underway to transform one of the city’s most iconic Art Deco buildings into 105 luxury one and two-bedroom apartments with 70% already sold-out pre-launch. The iconic building will see a new lease of life thanks to developer Empire Property with Global Sales and Distribution provided by LH1 London.
Formerly home to West Bromwich Building Society headquarters, the 169-year-old building located on the high street In West Bromwich was acquired by developers in 2018, ahead of its regeneration.
The redevelopment has been welcomed by local councillors who are keen to meet the increased demand for housing due to rising numbers of people moving to the area. This surge in popularity is mainly due to a £1billion regeneration programme taking place in the West Midlands region.
With approximately 44,263 square feet of prospective accommodation space on offer, Society House provides potential buyers with an easily accessible and commutable location, situated within walking distance of train, tram and bus stops with direct links into the city centre.
Property prices in West Bromwich are 50% lower than in Birmingham yet just 16 mins by tram to the bustling city centre.
Benjamin Hunter, CEO of LH1 London, said: “We’re thrilled to be involved in such an exciting project that will give a new lease of life to such an architecturally interesting building.
“Demand has been truly exceptional from both international buyers and local owner-occupiers. In fact, such was the excitement by local residents at this historic building being converted into properties that we actually had a waiting list from local residents registering to purchase a home at Society House.”
Paul Rothwell, Managing Director of Empire Property, said: “We believe that the development of Society House will bring a positive residential element to an area where there has been a surge in demand for housing.
“This acquisition was our first in the Midlands after purchasing properties in Yorkshire, Lancashire and the North East and has a great deal of potential.”
This project will mark the fourth collaboration between LH1 London and Empire Property, the two having delivered over 200 units across joint projects in the last 12 months alone. Work at Society House is underway, and the anticipated practical completion is Q4 2022. LH1 London is the UKs leading Global Master Agent of off plan, off market property and work on a range of developments in major cities throughout the UK including Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Luton, and London commutable regions.
