25 new "affordable" homes set to be delivered in County Durham

The development of 25 new family homes for affordable rent and to buy in County Durham has now begun on site.

The Karbon Homes development will contain a mixture of 10 two bed townhouses, 13 two bed houses and 2 three bed houses and is located at the junction of Durham Road and Plawsworth Road in Sacriston, on the site of a redundant sheltered scheme.

The former Graham Court sheltered housing scheme did not meet modern standards and was recently demolished.

Karbon has recently invested a total of £8.5m in three new-build development projects within Sacriston – the recently completed St. Cuthbert’s Drive which comprises 24 new family homes and 19 bungalows on Uphill Drive, which are under construction, in addition to the new family homes on Plawsworth Road.

Zoey Hawthorne, assistant director of development delivery at Karbon Homes, said: “Karbon Homes is excited to be investing £8.5m in new homes in Sacriston.

“These new family homes are ideal for local families looking to get onto the property ladder and are part of a wider development programme, including 19 new bungalows for affordable rent on nearby Uphill Drive.

“They will be available for Rent to Buy, allowing residents to pay a rent level based on 80 per cent of a comparable market rent while they can save towards a deposit to buy the house.”
