Nursery's play area revamp is purely artificial

Children at an outstanding rated day nursery in Durham are discovering that the grass is greener on the other side – of their play areas that is!

That’s because artificial grass has been used as the centrepiece for a revamp of the outdoor space at Clever Clogs Day Nursery.

The Belmont-based nursery, which is rated outstanding by Ofsted, recently had new artificial grass fitted in the outdoor areas used by babies and pre-school children.

The grass was supplied by Grass Direct, via its store in Stockton.

Grass Direct is part of Flooring Superstore, a North-East based company which has over 40 stores across the UK as well as a significant online presence. It donated £300 worth of grass from its Oasis range to enable the nursery to complete the project.

Sharon Lewis, Manager of Clever Clogs Nursery, said: “Artificial grass is much more suitable for outdoor play because the children can use it all year-round.

“It’s particularly good for our very youngest children who are just starting to walk, as well as providing them with a different sensory experience too.

“This was an important project as outdoor learning and play is a key part of the ethos here at Clever Clogs, so we’re delighted to have been able to further enhance the experience of the children who attend the nursery.

“We would like to thank Grass Direct for their kind support.”

Grass Direct Regional Manager Greig Anderson said: “When we learned about the nursery’s plans for the outdoor areas, we were only too pleased to be able to donate the grass on behalf of our Stockton store.

“Artificial grass is perfect for nurseries because it’s soft and unlike real grass it can be cleaned so there’s no chance of the children bringing muddy footprints back inside having channelled their inner Peppa Pig!

“As a company with its roots in County Durham, it’s nice to be able to support a business on our own doorstep.”
