Component Shortage – how does it affect two way radio?

A global chip component shortage has triggered a delay and impacted the manufacturing, availability and shipping of two way radio communication devices, and accessories including chargers and batteries.

Why is there a component chip shortage? When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit some factories were forced to close or drastically reduce their staffing levels, with a soaring demand for chips from sales of products such as laptops, and mobile phones and now the reprise of requirements for car markers coming back more quickly than anticipated, the situation has changed drastically as organisations begin to resume their normal activities.

Already challenged by the COVID-related shortages this situation was further exasperated in early 2021 by the factory fire at the Renesas Fabrication facilities and a fierce winter storm that closed a chip facilities in Texas, amid a global chip crisis.

How does this affect the supply of two way radios, batteries and chargers? This global supply deficiency has intensified over the last few months and isn’t likely to resolve in the short term.

Many radio manufacturers are reporting a short fall on the availability of both two way radios and batteries. This shortage is expected to continue well into 2022.

Radiocoms is continuously reviewing its short and long-term requirements. We are managing our supply chain through increasing stock levels and forecasting orders further in advance. Radiocoms will continue to heavily invest in stock and work closely with its clients to minimise any delays.
