IoD appoints four Ambassadors to support Surrey directors

The Institute of Directors has appointed a quartet of new ambassadors to its Surrey team.

Dorian Isaacson is a South African-born entrepreneur and becomes innovation, entrepreneurs and international community ambassador.

Dorian founded Isaacson Ladders which became a market leader in access to height equipment in South Africa and a leading supplier of ladders to 13 countries.

He is passionate about furthering the next generation of entrepreneurs and serves as a mentor to final year business students at the University of South West London.

Vijay Luthra has been appointed as governance and policy ambassador and will help deliver the IoD’s ambition that ‘better directors build a better world’.

Following careers in the major events industry, as a civil servant and with PwC UK LLP, Vijay runs his own boutique consultancy, helping purpose driven companies with strategy execution, innovation and transformation. Vijay is also an IoD Expert Advisor on Diversity and Inclusion.

IoD Chartered Director Mark Walley takes on the dual role of ambassador for education and skills and diversity and inclusion. Mark is chief executive of STEP, the global professional association for those advising families across generations.

He was previously a volunteer director of ‘Professions for Good’ (P4G). Representing 1.2 million practitioners, P4G worked to uphold fair access, professional ethics and fact-based policy among UK professions.

Mark now maintains a role as mentor to a diverse group of young professionals, is a champion of diversity and inclusion and volunteers with ‘Inspiring the Future’.

A chartered accountant, Ian Shackell becomes professional and financial services ambassador.

During his executive director career, Ian was engaged by some of the largest insurance and professional services organisations in the world to develop and further improve their risk management, regulatory compliance and corporate governance.

Ian now works as a consultant, non-executive director and mentor. He is also an IoD Chartered Director.

IoD Surrey’s leadership team also includes branch chair and Chartered Director ambassador Sue Lawrence; vice chair and communications, marketing and PR ambassador Jarmila Yu; and Michelle Tudor, professional and legal services ambassador.

Sue said: “I am delighted with the addition of these new ambassadors. We are building a strong, diverse and experienced team to engage and support our members and their businesses across Surrey.

“With the addition of these new appointees we are looking to further connect, develop and influence with, and on behalf of, our members through enhancing our initiatives, increasing our connections and creating new opportunities for IoD members in Surrey.

“I’d also like to place on record my thanks for the work and commitment of our previous committee members who have helped establish a strong branch to support directors across Surrey.”
