Strong showing for Lupton Fawcett in new legal rankings

Lupton Fawcett’s reputation for providing excellent legal advice is showcased in the new Chambers UK 2022 guide in which the firm is ranked in four practice areas with nine of its lawyers receiving individual rankings.

The business is ranked for the expertise of its individuals and teams in Employment, Family/Matrimonial and Intellectual Property which are all ranked in Band 3. The firm’s Corporate/M&A: Lower-Mid Market team is ranked in Band 2.

The Chambers UK guide analyses the capabilities of law firms through a comprehensive research programme which is revised and updated every year. Law firms and individual lawyers are ranked in bands, 1 being the highest and 6 the lowest.

Lupton Fawcett’s chairman Jonathan Oxley is recognised for his ‘considerable experience in early-stage investments and venture capital work’. He is a member of the firm’s Corporate M&A team which is led by Giles Clegg who is recognised in the guide for his ‘extensive corporate law experience’.

Partners Dan McCormack and Michele Philips are also part of the team which the guide says is ‘professional, good value for money, responsive and commercial’. Jonathan, Giles and Dan are all ranked Band 3.

The guide notes that corporate clients benefit from the broad coverage Lupton Fawcett provides through its partner-led teams in Leeds, Sheffield and York. The success of the corporate team over recent years is reflected in it being moved up a band, from 3 to 2.

The firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) team is said to have ‘a deep understanding of issues faced by technology, retail and manufacturing businesses’, and two members of the team have been individually ranked. New head of IP Ben Clay is described as ‘up and coming’, offering ‘experienced advice on numerous IP matters, including trademarks, licensing agreements and matters pertaining to patent infringements’.

Colleague Clive Lawrence is ranked Band 2 and recognised for developing ‘client followings in sport, the creative industries and the not-for-profit sector’.

Lupton Fawcett’s employment team has ‘noted expertise in data protection and National Minimum Wage matters’, says the guide. It is also recommended for its employment law training initiatives.

Head of employment and partner Andy Gilchrist, ranked Band 3, is known to ‘expertly manage Employment Tribunal claims’ and is described as ‘pragmatic, approachable and helps you through a minefield of complex legal issues’.

Ecclesiastical partner Louise Connacher is ranked Band 4 and known to ‘enjoy a niche focus in the ecclesiastical sphere, advising on data protection, ordination and licensing, and appointment and consecration matters’.

Head of Lupton Fawcett’s family team and partner Chris Burns, ranked Band 3, is recognised as ‘a truly trusted adviser who gives calm and measured legal advice, clearly presenting the options and the various risks and possible results’.

In addition to litigation, the family team is known for its collaborative law and mediation services and described as ‘a well-established Yorkshire firm that is solid and dependable’.
