Law firm launches free community clinics giving future lawyers vital experience

A legal clinic that will give local law students real-life experience while serving the Warwickshire public is set to be launched by a Midlands law firm.

Leamington-based Wright Hassall is combining the relaunch of a popular community legal clinic with another initiative to give future lawyers vital experience.

Wright Hassall first started its free monthly legal clinic in 2016, inviting people who might struggle to gain access to legal guidance to the Wright Hassall offices at Tachbrook Park, but it was brought to an end due to the pandemic.

The return of the scheme coincides with the 20th annual Pro Bono Week, which celebrates the voluntary contributions of the legal profession in giving free legal help to those in need across the UK and looks ahead to the future of the industry.

Each appointment is attended by a Wright Hassall lawyer and a law student from the University of Warwick.

The student will then conduct research and propose legal guidance before it is reviewed by Wright Hassall and fed back to the member of the public.

The sessions, which consist of 30-minute appointments, will run monthly from 12pm to 2pm. The first will take place on Wednesday, November 17. Details can be found on the firm’s web site along with the booking form.

“What makes this initiative even more special is the fact that we are working together with bright young legal minds at the University of Warwick to give them vital experience of consultation situations and exposure to how a law firm of our size operates.”
