North of Tyne Mayor promotes authority's 'Good Work Pledge'
North of Tyne Mayor Jamie Driscoll promoted the North of Tyne Combined authority’s ‘Good Work Pledge’ at the People Power Conference in Gateshead today.
The ‘Good Work Pledge’ aims to support companies become “good” employers.
According to the pledge a “good” employer: values and rewards its people, looks after employee health and wellbeing, develops its people, listens to its workforce, and is socially responsible.
Mayor Driscoll said to the conference: “Our world is a human one. That’s what today is about. When we talk about the education system, what is that but people teaching young people things. It’s not just about teachers and schools. Our health system is not about hospitals but it’s about people looking after people”
“When it comes to economics we forget that the world is human. We talk about resources rather than people.”
The Mayor also stressed the importance of companies to pay employees the real living wage and the expansion of green jobs in the region.
Companies are still able to sign up to the pledge but must submit evidence as to whether they fulfill its five pledges.
