The brave new world of retail
As part of Bdaily’s ‘Retail Week’ coverage, we spoke to the co-founder and CEO of Newcastle’s web and app development firm Nebula Labs.
Dylan McKee, the award winning developer, was tasked with predicting three technological advancements retail will face in the near future.
The first prediction was the eradication of physical bank cards.
“One thing I heard at web summit 2021, from the guy who set up checkout.com, I totally buy into” Dylan commented.
“He said, in the next couple of forseeable years, banks are going to stop issuing physical cards. So your wallet is just going to become your Apple or Google pay, because no-one uses physical cards anymore.
“I use apple pay so much, even though I have my silly metal card, I still use apple pay absolutely loads”.
Dylan also expects to see much the more efficient transportation of goods.
“Another one is the rise of instantaenous delivery. So the high street’s kind of dying, but could it be being replaced by that fact that you could order something and get it delivered by the hour, whether be that by a person or drone in the future?”
Nebula Labs’ co-founder also predicts a bricks-and-mortor Amazon operation.
“I expect to see the rise of the Amazon store, where you can go and pick stuff up without having to check out, or at least the rise of the quick check out app, like Waitrose.”
