Willmott Dixon Interiors plant hundreds of trees in Leeds

Willmott Dixon Interiors has announced a new conservation partnership in West Yorkshire as part of an initiative to improve green spaces across the UK.

The national fit-out and refurbishment specialist contractor has partnered with leading nature charity, The Conservation Volunteers to deliver a tree planting project in Bramley, Leeds.

The partners have planted 720 new trees on land owned by Leeds City Council at Calverley Lane, Summerfield Drive. The new pocket woodland will contribute to an increase in urban canopy cover in the city and support the Council’s ambitious plans to help combat the climate emergency.

Willmott Dixon Interiors is delivering five tree planting events in Yorkshire, the West Midlands and South East, with more than 3,000 trees due to be planted by the end of March 2022, creating around 70 internal volunteering positions.

As part of its ambitions for delivering environmental net gain, Willmott Dixon’s industry-leading sustainability strategy, Now or Never sets a target to plant 100,000 trees nationally by 2030.

The contractor has partnered with a range of charities, social enterprises and community groups located close to its construction projects, to improve the local environment for occupiers.

Phil Crowther, regional director of Willmott Dixon Interiors, said: “Environmental net gain means leaving the environment in a measurably better state than before. It’s all about improving health and wellbeing by creating green spaces for people and nature.

“Our partnership with The Conservation Volunteers will help us to ensure the success and longevity of the urban green space we’ve created at Bramley but the approach isn’t solely focused on tree planting. We’re really excited about working together to engage with schools and other grassroots community organisations and would encourage local volunteers to get involved.”
