Newcastle artistic enterprise hub rebrands

Newcastle’s largest city-centre-based creative enterprise hub and fine arts venue rebrands as High Bridge Works.

Formerly Baltic39, this contemporary studio and exhibition space re-brands and relaunches from its city centre location; 39 High Bridge, Newcastle. Home to the most significant community of practising artists and creative organisations in Newcastle city centre, High Bridge Works is a cultural hub for local talent and microbusinesses.

Twenty-five per cent of studio tenants are fine artists, and the top floor gallery space has recently relaunched as Newcastle Contemporary Art, curated by independent art collective, High Bridge CIC.

Its progressive programme of events, exhibitions and conferences is set to animate the 4000 sq ft top floor gallery space at High Bridge Works, delivering new and exciting opportunities to the community of studio holders, whilst attracting visitors and internationally significant exhibitors to this landmark city centre location.

Studio holder Chris Leedham said: “I feel like I have found my tribe again! High Bridge Works is an inspirational place to work - in a building with such a creative history and energy which now houses a lot of contemporary creative talent.”

Creative director of everything, Mickey Devine, said: “The High Bridge Works name and identity celebrates the rich history of the building and highlights the legacy of all the remarkable makers, creators and thinkers who have worked here over the past 254 years.”

High Bridge Works is owned by Newcastle City Council and managed by placemaking consultants and property managers Creative Space Management. It offers much sought after, affordable studio and gallery space in the heart of Newcastle city centre.

Home to a fascinating fusion of well-established fine artists, working side-by-side with Newcastle’s burgeoning creative talent, academics, architects, filmmakers and designers, the High Bridge Works community co-locate and co-create.

As well as the gallery venue, conference and exhibition space, the building offers studios and offices ranging in size from 150 sq ft to 1000 sq ft, a shared painting room, and flexible grow-on space.
