Solicitor outlines benefit of training with Yorkshire family law firm
A newly qualified solicitor has spoken of the benefits of training at a smaller family law firm. Isabel Stirk wants to specialise in property and private client issues having finished her training at West Yorkshire-based John Howe and Co. The 25-year-old completed a law degree at Leeds Beckett University followed by the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law. She highlighted the advantages of training with a smaller family firm, which she believes led to her acquiring more first-hand experience faster than she would have at a large City firm. She said: “What John Howe and Co has, as compared to a city law firm, was much more client contact during my training contract. “At a larger firm, I think it would have been very impersonal and that I would have been kept behind the scenes doing admin during much of my training. “Whereas at John Howe and Co I had the opportunity to experience client contact first-hand from very early on and I was mentored by senior staff.” She added: “I would definitely recommend John Howe and Co because of the family firm feel. There’s plenty of support and the training and client contact is fantastic for any aspiring solicitor to gain the widest experience possible.” John Howe, managing director of the Pudsey-based law firm, said: “The training we offer ensures that our trainees are involved with clients from the very start and that they are equipped with an in-depth understanding of the full-breadth of legal specialities handled by John Howe and Co. “Isabel has been a perfect pupil and now she is qualified will be a fantastic asset to the firm due to the scale of what she has learnt and her dedication and attention to detail in everything that she does.” Isabel started with the firm in August 2019 with her training contract overseen by Mr Howe.
