Chester city residential transformation gathers pace

The rebirth of abandoned and unloved commercial buildings in Chester city centre, creating luxury homes for city dwellers, gathers pace with the latest Blueoak development.

The firm has acquired Royal House on Upper Northgate Street and work is now underway to create 16 one bed apartments. Aimed at the first time buyer, the large and spacious apartments feature huge, striking windows flooding each apartment with light, in what is considered to be one of the city’s most desirable addresses.

Set in the fashionable Northgate Quarter, just a stone’s throw from the City Walls, the site sits close to the £72m retail and leisure Northgate development with many independent retail and restaurants outlets nearby.

Royal House marks the 10th Chester city development Blueoak has led in the past six years. Iain MacLean, Managing Director of Blueoak Estates explained: “It’s incredibly important to us that the projects we build leaving a lasting and sustainable legacy that support and enhance the local environment and community. Once again we have acquired an unwanted building that required major repurposing and reconfiguring to create homes suitable for modern needs and expectations.

“Furthermore, we strongly believe that utilising existing building such as Royal House helps breathe new life into city centres struggling under the threat of challenging retail conditions and weighted against online shopping experiences. The opportunity of new, quality developments such as Royal House will help drive potential homeowners into the city, who themselves are able to introduce new energy and footfall, whilst benefitting from everything an area such as Chester has to offer.”

The project is expected to launch in Summer this year.
