New Frontier: Durham welcomes Space Conference for North East businesses
The North East Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications is inviting businesses to learn more about the growing space industry in the North East at its upcoming conference next month.
The New Frontier: North East Space Conference, which is being held on 2nd March 2022 at Radisson Blu in Durham, will explore the current priorities for the space sector in a series of seminars and workshops. Topics discussed will range from building a UK space economy and the future of integrated telecommunications, to evaluating space sustainability and how science and innovation can be a catalyst for economic prosperity.
Businesses will also hear from a host of speakers from within the space industry such as Lockheed Martin, a global technology leader in aerospace, UK and European Space Agencies, Satellite Application Catapult and more, as well as public sector and academic representatives.
Speakers include:
Nik Smith
Regional Director UK & Europe at Lockheed Martin Space Nik is responsible for overseeing the company’s activity in the region and leading on strategy and business growth.
Kathie Bowden
Kathie leads on Skills for the UK Space Agency, working with partners across the sector, in industry, academia and government, through her leadership of the People, Skills and Culture Workstream for the National Space Partnership.
Mark Lambert
Mark is President of Kratos Communication Ltd, the UK-based satellite communications business of Kratos, which provides integrated ground systems using both Kratos and 3rd party technologies.
Paul Febvre
Paul is Chief Technology Officer at the Satellite Applications Catapult, responsible for establishing a future vision for the sector and directing the technology strategy for the Catapult.
Stuart Martin
Stuart is CEO of the Satellite Applications Catapult. He is a passionate advocate of the Catapult programme, which he considers to be a vital element of the UK strategy to secure and accelerate economic growth from emerging technologies.
Tobias Lin
Tobias is a space strategist and policy professional. He has held several roles in the UK government, including formulating government policy on future orbital space activities, developing the Space Industry Act’s secondary legislation, designing the UK’s new spaceflight regulator, and building the UK’s first National Space Strategy.
Christopher Newman
Christopher is a professor of space law and policy at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He has published extensively on the legal and ethical underpinnings of space governance and has advised national space agencies, military and defence partners and commercial space companies on space law matters.
The conference is taking place the day after Lockheed Martin holds its space skills and supply chain summit on 1st March which will see the company’s supply chain representatives identify new partners and suppliers as it works to establish a new satellite manufacturing facility in the North East.
