£1.5m American-inspired Newcastle quayside restaurant to create 50 jobs upon opening

Plans that will help create a new £1.5m American-inspired restaurant at the heart of Newcastle’s popular quayside have been submitted for approval.

The move will see the site of the former Las Iguanas restaurant, previously located next to the Malmaison Hotel on the Quayside, transformed by developers VictorsNewc Limited into the new Victors Newcastle restaurant, which will cater for 175 diners of which 80 are outside dining spaces.

Current plans pending consideration by Newcastle City Council cover an application for a new “Riviera style” outdoor seated area and canopy shelter together with new signage and branding.

Victors is inspired by the Hamptons, the upmarket New York seaside community known for its affluent residents, and boasts a menu of modern American sharing plates including burgers, sushi, and raw bar platters.

Once the venue is open for business later this year, 50 full-time hospitality jobs are expected to be created, meeting the popular demand for new types of dining in one of the most popular spots in Newcastle.

John Aynsley, senior planner at the Newcastle office of planning and development consultancy, Lichfields, said: “This is a sensitively designed development that represents a significant contribution to the vibrancy and vitality of an important local economic sector, bringing a vacant site back into use.

“It’s in an attractive location, with good transport links nearby as well as being within easy walking distance to a range of facilities and services.”

A spokesperson for the developers added: “This is a prestigious project that will not only create new jobs and provide a boost for a great city centre location, but also offer a quality dining location where people can stay and experience the city at its best.”

Planning approval for the seating and canopy is expected by the end of March with approval for the new signage and branding to follow in April.
