Victory for Mather & Co at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

On 13th April, an exhibition celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games opened at Lee Valley VeloPark at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Exhibition designers, Mather & Co, were responsible for the design of the exhibition – including exhibition configuration and layout, new display elements for objects, stories, and graphic content.

Kim Kherlopian, Project Director at Mather & Co said: “We feel honoured to have been part of the celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the 2012 Paralympic and Olympic Games. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and we hope visitors enjoy the exhibition.”

The exhibition, which overlooks the velodrome track at Lee Valley VeloPark, shines a light on both Paralympic and Olympic events. As well as celebrating the incredible sporting success of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the exhibition showcases the unforgettable legacy that London 2012 left behind.

We are proud that Lee Valley Regional Park Authority’s three venues are at the heart of this. The Games inspired countless people of all ages to try new things, and as Lee Valley VeloPark gets ready to host the Commonwealth Games’ track cycling events, we know that these ground-breaking venues have created real health, wellbeing and sporting opportunities for communities far and wide, and will continue to do so.”

The exhibition displays memorabilia from key sporting moments and legends – such as a pair of shoes and gloves worn by para-cyclist Neil Fachie MBE at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, a petal from Thomas Heatherwick’s Olympic cauldron, London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Opening Ceremony torches, London 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony concept models made by Jon Bausor, London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic medals, and a piece of the London 2012 running track with a Paralympic running blade. Visitors can also get involved in an illustrative photo opportunity, where they can #PassTheBaton.

The exhibition AV and graphics weave content together using the iconic London 2012 legacy ribbon, and the Paralympic exhibition continues its UK tour as an extension of the National Paralympic Heritage Centre at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. New graphics introduce content celebrating the success of the London 2012 Paralympic Games here at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Lyn Garner, London Legacy Development Corporation Chief Executive, said: “This exhibition takes you on a journey from that wonderful summer of sport in 2012 through to the fantastic achievements since then. It is great to see that people have such fond memories of 2012 but also appreciate the legacy that has been, and continues to be, created here in east London.”

The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games created a dynamic new heart for east London, creating opportunities for local people and driving innovation and growth. The Games will continue to inspire generations to come, not just in London, but all over the UK.
