County Durham electric vehicle charging specialist increases headcount by 20 per cent following acquisition
Welcome to Bdaily’s coverage of Green Energy Week, where we will be spotlighting the latest developments in the world of sustainability. Today’s story centres round an electric vehicle (EV) charging specialist headquartered in County Durham, who begins a new chapter this week, following its acquisition by a European counterpart.
European EV charging company Mer acquired Consett based Elmtronics earlier this year, gaining Elmtronics’ 3,000-strong customer base built up over the last seven years. Moving forward, Elmtronics will be known as Mer, focused on providing an end-to-end EV charging solution to businesses, workplaces and fleets.
Since the acquisition the company has increased its headcount by 20 per cent, with more hiring underway. This positions the company for future growth as the UK increasingly embraces electric vehicles, while also bringing benefits for legacy Elmtronics customers.
The acquisition of Elmtronics brings Mer an established portfolio of commercial customers in the UK including Asda, Fedex, Octopus Energy, BMW and the London Ambulance Service.
The integration into Mer also brings significant investment to the former Elmtronics operation, enabling the commercial charge point specialist to scale-up quickly and support more fleets and businesses to switch to EVs.
Dan Martin, managing director, fleet and workplace charging, Mer UK, said: “Over the last twelve months we have seen a 44 per cent year-on-year growth in demand for charging infrastructure as the industry shifts to more sustainable practices.
“I believe that this acquisition provides us with enhanced expertise to continue to successfully guide businesses through EV adoption and we look forward to driving this change.”
The 15,000 drivers using Elmtronics’ Hubsta platform will be integrated into Mer’s own software system, allowing for more investment in the back-office software. New features being added include a booking system for drivers, charger load management and dedicated fleet management modules.
Dan Martin added: “It’s great to see the integration of Elmtronics into Mer beginning to benefit customers. “As Mer, we will be offering our business customers more choice, a larger network and improved services. And we will continue to invest to further support commercial businesses looking to establish EV fleets in the UK.”
