Merton development to provide “affordable” housing near new Wimbledon football ground
Wandle has appointed Higgins as development partner to deliver 93 “affordable” homes in Summerstown, Merton, South West London.
The development, which has been supported by Greater London Authority GLA, through a social housing grant, will create much needed new homes as part of the wider regeneration of the area, which is also home to the new AFC Wimbledon football ground.
Managing director Steve Leakey commented: “We are proud to be partnering with Wandle to deliver high quality, energy efficient new homes for the local community.
“We have extensive experience delivering sustainable mixed tenure developments in partnership with Registered Providers and look forward to working collaboratively to deliver employment and social value opportunities.”
The development will provide a mixture of 39 London Living Rent and 54 Shared Ownership homes, all of which will be Lifetime Homes compliant with the provision to adapt or accommodate 10 per cent of the apartments for wheelchair use in line with the London Plan.
Yinka Bolaji, executive director of property and development at Wandle, added: “I am delighted that Wandle will be able to provide safe and affordable homes that people really need. Summerstown is an exciting development and will create a new community and boost the economy. I look forward to seeing the development take shape.”
Work is expected to start shortly with completion targeted in 2025.
