Barratt Homes lock up their lawnmowers for No-Mow-May Challenge
Showhomes at two Dorset developments will be laying down the lawn(mowers) and encouraging wildlife back into the gardens for Plantlife’s #NoMowMay.
As well as providing homes for humans, Dorset housebuilder Barratt Homes is hosting insects and other species too as they put all mowing equipment out to pasture until the end of May to allow for gardens to grow at its Canford Paddock and Quarter Jack Park developments.
The #NoMowMay campaign was organised by British conservation charity, Plantlife, which carried out research into the effect of lawnmowing during the 2021 lockdown. They found not only an astonishing diversity of wild flowers growing on Britain’s lawns, but that incredibly simple changes in mowing can result in enough nectar for ten times more bees and other pollinators.
Anthony Dimmick, Barratt Homes Community Liaison Manager is thrilled the housebuilder is taking part in the campaign and sees it as an important part of giving something back.
He said: “Barratt Homes prides itself on sustainability and we’re building more and more houses that offer energy saving features. Our developments are also increasingly including more green space, so that the communities that come to live on our developments can benefit from a greener environment, both outside their homes and inside.
It’s extremely important we take on challenges like #NoMowMay and listen to the research that supports all the right things to do to bring wildlife back into our gardens.“
