South Tyneside Business Week returns to inspire and celebrate growth

Businesses and entrepreneurs across the borough and the North East are invited to attend a week-long programme of free, insightful events and practical workshops to help them thrive.

Designed to both showcase and support businesses of all shapes and sizes, South Tyneside Business Week returns and will run from Monday 13th until Friday 17th June 2022. Delegates can expect inspiring speakers, engaging networking opportunities and workshops across both council and business venues throughout the borough.

The South Tyneside Business Week Launch Event and Exhibition on Monday 13th June will kickstart the week – featuring known and loved North East brands Newcastle Building Society and Ward Hadaway. Stuart Fearn, Head of Customer Contact at Newcastle Building Society and Matt Cormack, Senior Partner at Ward Hadaway will each share inspiring stories of doing business from the region.

Councillor Tracey Dixon, Leader of South Tyneside Council, said:

“Supporting businesses is what we do every day, and I am delighted to see the return of South Tyneside Business Week following our success in 2020. Celebrating and inspiring entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes across the borough and beyond is essential for ensuring continued growth and innovation, especially following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We’ve put together a fantastic programme of events delivering relevant content, coming straight from successful local and regional businesses, entrepreneurs and organisations, to equip businesses with the knowledge that they need to thrive. No matter what stage businesses are at, new or established, they will take something from the varied programme of events.”

Throughout the week in-depth workshops and topical sessions will offer businesses specialist advice on topics such as winning work, recruitment and re-energising businesses for export growth.

Delegates will gain vital insights from the key players within the region’s business community including TEDCO, experts from the Department for International Trade North East, and Michael Dickson, Managing Director of Dicksons who will share his inspirational business story that spans three generations.

Regional businesses and support organisations - North East Fund, The Growth Fund, North East Ambition, BIPC, ScaleUp, NEL Fund Managers, BIC, and the Advanced Manufacturing Forum will also be on hand to share knowledge and advice.

Throughout the week there will also be an opportunity to find out more about South Tyneside Council’s procurement plans for the next 12 months, including the council’s commitment as part of the South Tyneside Pledge to increase the proportion of procurement spending in South Tyneside.

Delegates with an interest in the UK offshore renewables industry can also join Tom Nightingale, North East Stakeholder Manager at Equinor in a live Business Talks event at One Trinity Green. A number of guests will join Tom to discuss the direct positive impact that Dogger Bank Wind Farm, one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects is having in South Tyneside.

For young people, their parents and carers, as well as adult job seekers there will an opportunity to meet local employers, including Tritility, Dickson’s, Hitachi, Unipres and Go North East at South Tyneside Job Fair.

The week will culminate with a beach party at Sandhaven Beach, hosted by South Tyneside Cultural Partnership and Create North for artists and creative practitioners living and working around South Tyneside. The party will be an exploration of ideas and opportunities deriving from the coast.

Cllr Tracey Dixon added: “South Tyneside Business Week will celebrate our fantastic business community and equip them with the knowledge they need to thrive in 2022 and beyond. I hope businesses, entrepreneurs and growing SMEs will take full advantage of the many opportunities to make connections, network, build relationships and be inspired by other successful companies.”
