Sunderland based Gentoo reaches milestone for apprentices
Sunderland-based housing association Gentoo Group has announced it is launching 15 new apprenticeship opportunities, taking the number of apprenticeships it has created since it was founded in 2001 to more than 300. The Group will be holding an open day on Saturday 18 June at its head office at Doxford International Business Park.
The apprenticeship recruitment day will provide applicants with a chance to learn more about the 15 vacancies, talk to people currently working in those roles, and to get advice and information on the application and interview process.
The apprenticeships available this year are in a range of different roles across the business, including multi maintenance, electrical, joinery, plastering, gas, and business administration.
Salaries start at £12,500 and will increase by an additional £3,000 on the successful completion of each year. The roles also come with excellent benefits, including 29 days paid holiday (plus bank holidays), a cash healthcare plan, employee assistance programme and retail discounts.
Amy Murphy and Connor Lawson joined Gentoo as apprentices and are both working through their qualifications. Amy Murphy, who joined Gentoo as a business administration apprentice, said, “I have received a great deal of support by my immediate team and the wider business which has really helped me to grow my confidence and realise my full potential.”
Connor Lawson, who joined Gentoo as a gas apprentice, said, “I’ve really enjoyed my apprenticeship, it has been a great way to earn income while learning both life and work skills.
Nigel Wilson, Gentoo Group Chief Executive Officer, said, “we have a proud history of supporting apprenticeships here at Gentoo and I am delighted that this year we will reach a milestone of seeing more than 300 apprentices join the Group since 2001.
“We are committed to investing in our workforce of the future and our apprenticeship scheme provides a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn valuable trades and professional skills.”
