Pride month: Clu has been recognised as one of the first certified-LGBT owned business enterprises in the UK

Social impact hiring platform Clu has been recognised as one of the first certified-LGBT owned business enterprises in the UK.

The certification has been awarded to just seven companies in the UK by OutBritain, the UK’s new LGBT Chamber of Commerce and independent certification body that verifies if an eligible business is majority-owned by LGBT+ individuals in the UK.

As the only third-party LGBT certification body in the UK, OutBritain verifies that eligible businesses are majority-owned by LGBT+ individuals and grant a LGBT Business Enterprise® accreditation.

To be certified, companies must be at least 51 per cent owned and operated by an LGBT+ person or persons who are U.K. citizens or have an indefinite leave to remain in the UK. The company needs to be a for-profit enterprise located in the UK and undergo a thorough certification process.

The aim of the accreditation is to connect, support and grow the LGBT+ business community and to act as a signpost for businesses or people wanting to work with, and for, LGBT+ owned businesses.

Before Clu was awarded the certification, the selection process involved an application with supporting documents, a site visit and a committee review.

Matt Dabrowski, Founder and CEO of OutBritain, comments, “at OutBritain we are proud to have Clu as one of our very first certified businesses here in the UK.

“When connecting with Joseph it became very apparent that Clu would meet all the criteria to be certified and we look forward to helping them scale and grow as we connect them to our corporate partners and link them to the largest LGBT+ business community in the UK.

Clu was founded by LGBT+ couple, Joseph Williams and Cayelan Mendoza, who have both faced discrimination in their careers to date, and so welcome this long overdue addition to the supplier diversity landscape in the UK.

Joseph Williams, CEO of Clu adds, “we really respect the work OutBritain is doing for the LGBTQ community and we are thrilled to be one of the first seven companies in the UK awarded this certification.”
