Welcoming the first generation of Yorkshire Windows trainee fitters

LEADING South Yorkshire home improvement company Yorkshire Windows has completed the first phase of its in-house training programme.

The Rotherham based company saw orders soar during the Covid lockdown and demand has continued to rise throughout 2022.

But with experienced fitters in short supply, the company decided it would have to offer its own complete training programme - and the first trainees are now ready to expand their experience.

“The level of demand has created a real skills shortage throughout the industry - there’s an unprecedented need for experienced fitters across the country,” said Yorkshire Windows Managing Director Ian Chester.

“To ensure that all orders are delivered and installed promptly and to our usual high standard we knew we simply had to expand our installations team as quickly as possible.

“But with no nationally recognised training scheme or qualification, we also knew that the only thing we could do was launch our own training programme with the aim of providing valuable on the job experience and preparing them for an industry where their skills are definitely going to be in high demand.

“We have given our first trainees practical experience in a safe and controlled environment, preparing them for a full and active role within the company.

“Interest in home improvement has never been higher and anybody with the skills to meet that demand will be able to enjoy the benefits.

“We look forward now to taking the scheme further and welcoming the next generation of trainees because their skills are most definitely going to be needed.”
