Construction firm's flying high thanks to Teesside Airport's links
A Middlesbrough-based construction firm is raising its national profile to help deliver a multimillion-pound hospital project thanks to Teesside Airport’s fast and reliable UK-wide connections.
TekBuild, which started life in 2017, has been involved in a £233m development at Aberdeen’s Foresterhill Health Campus, driving forward the state-of-the-art Anchor Centre Project and Baird Family Hospital in just 34 weeks.
Loganair’s twice-daily flights between Teesside and the Granite City kept key workers flying during the coronavirus pandemic, and has also given staff at TekBuild regular, smooth and safe links to Scotland so they could secure and carry out the works.
Since its creation TekBuild has consistently grown its offering, going from strength to strength and now operating TekConstruct, TekFrame and TekDesign under the Tek umbrella, giving it the ability to take on these large-scale schemes.
Business travel is still recovering following the pandemic, but passengers of all types can take advantage of Loganair’s connections to Aberdeen, Belfast City, Dublin and Newquay. Alternatively, they can go worldwide from Teesside to around 200 destinations with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ flights to Amsterdam Schiphol, now operating twice a day.
Figures from the Civil Aviation Authority for the first three months of 2022 have also revealed Teesside Airport was one of the most punctual airports in the country, based on scheduled and chartered flights arriving and departing on time. It was second only to its partner airport, Belfast City.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “It’s been incredible to see our terminal packed out with summer holiday passengers as we approach the height of the season, but it’s just as encouraging to hear about how Teesside Airport has helped give some much-needed certainty to our companies during the past couple of very difficult years.”
“As we look to the future, expand our assets and continue to develop our £200million business park, it will play an increasingly larger role in securing investment, supporting firms and helping to create good-quality, well-paid jobs – with flights just the tip of the iceberg.”
Andy Scholes, TekBuild’s Business Development Director, said: “Everyone at the Tekgroup see the benefits and say that the locality of the airport, the regularity of the flights and the time saved in travel ensured we are and were able to get the right members of the team to meetings and also the workforce to site.”
