Newcastle’s Grainger market launching evening events to aid pandemic recovery
Newcastle’s ‘iconic’ Grainger market is set to launch as an evening venue to help aid the hospitality scene in the city bounce back from the pandemic.
The Great Market Caper will welcome up to thousands of people when it launches on Saturday 3rd September and promises to deliver some truly memorable nights.
The market’s existing street food offer will be complemented by guest operators including some of Newcastle’s top chefs, and the first Caper will also feature Salsa maestro Chris Pendleton providing free lessons to all comers, comedians from Whitley Bay’s celebrated Felt Nowt, and a line-up of live music and DJs.
Inspired by Boston’s Faneuil Hall and London’s Brixton Market, The Great Market Caper will provide a platform for the region’s best chefs, musicians, performers, comics, and artists.
Sean Bullick, director of organisers, Let’s Stick Together Events, said: “At The Great Market Caper, you could only be in Newcastle. Not only is each Caper going to be a fantastic night out right in the heart of the city, but they will also showcase all the extraordinary depth of local talent which exists in the region.”
Richard Wheatley, chef and partner of Bao Bar on Chillingham Road, commented: “I’m really excited about being asked to be part of The Great Market Caper. I think the concept is sound and I hope it becomes a really established part of Newcastle’s offer.”
