Family business heats up with Northumberland head office acquisition
A third-generation family business which has served the North East for over four decades is eyeing a brighter future with the purchase of a new head office.
G Phillips Heating & Solar Services has purchased the entire ground floor of Cortech House, Ashington, after seeing demand for its services heat up over the past 12 months. Founded over 40 years ago by George Phillips, the company started life as a humble family business providing gas and heating support to customers across Northumberland.
However, under the guidance of managing director Gary Phillips, son of George, the company has grown rapidly, expanding into new markets and securing customers across the North East.
Over the last few years, the growing demand for solar energy in particular has led to G Phillips expanding its offering to include solar support, opening an entirely new revenue stream for the business and helping to increase its customer base.
This has led to the company expanding its vehicle fleet and recruiting its third generation members of the Phillips family, Gary’s sons, Jack and Joe who join wife Nicola in the business, over the past 12 months, as well as the company outgrowing its Ashington home of 19 years, resulting in the recent purchase of a new head office and workshop at Cortech House.
Situated just a mile from Ashington town centre, the 2,146sq ft property, which was marketed by property agency Bradley Hall, will allow G Phillips to continue growing its headcount and provide it with the space required to run more vans and continue increasing its presence across the region.
Gary commented: “As a company which has been based in Northumberland for the best part of 30 years, we are delighted to be continuing to invest in the county and to continue creating opportunities for local people.
“Having outgrown our old site and seeing demand continue to grow for our services, we knew the time had come to relocate and we were dead-set on the idea of Cortech House as soon as we were shown around by the guys at Bradley Hall.
“It’s a really exciting time for everyone involved with the business and we’re excited to see what the future holds.”
The move to Cortech House represents a significant investment for G Phillips, with the company meeting the asking price of £180k and pumping a further £30k into renovating the site and getting it work-ready.
