Innovative coworking space set to shake-up Teesside’s digital sector
Teesside’s biggest coworking space, Flok, is set to open this autumn on Albert Road, Middlesbrough. Inspired by global coworking studios, the 5,000 sq. ft, state-of-the-art site will feature a custom-built auditorium, fully equipped podcast room, work pods and a members-only café featuring the North East’s first Modbar coffee system, developed by the La Marzocco family.
The coworking space has capacity for up to 200 people and offers several levels of tiered membership, starting from just £20+VAT. The café will be a haven for coffee lovers, featuring ultramodern technology and a signature ‘Flok’ blend of beans.
The modern space was designed in conjunction with leading North East interior design studio, Cocoon & Bauer, and is part of the Albert Road North collective. Flok will be managed by digital innovation studio, Alt Labs, who will have a permanent office in the building.
The project is headed up by Alt Labs CEO, Imran Anwar, who has long championed coworking, having seen the benefits through the delivery of multiple innovation workshops for national companies, including Go Ahead Group, National Express and Transport for Wales.
Speaking ahead of Flok’s launch, Imran said: “We’re delighted to be opening Teesside’s most versatile coworking space. In developing Flok, we spent a lot of time looking at competitors across the UK and further afield. We wanted to bring the best elements of all those concepts together to deliver a premium space in the heart of Middlesbrough.”
“Flok is a place where young tech start-ups can come and flourish. Teesside has a wealth of talent across the digital sector and it’s vital that, to retain and grow that talent, we can provide the aspirational space to accommodate their visions.
“As well as supporting start-ups, we want Flok to be a draw for bigger companies looking to collaborate with businesses across the North East. We’re located five minutes away from a train station that has direct lines to London, Manchester, Leeds and more. We want a space that will attract major talent from those areas to our region.”
In addition to being fully resourced, Flok will also offer members a range of benefits including on-site yoga classes, launch and learn events, and access to growth services.
Imran said: “It’s been a project two years in the making and our team can’t wait to open the doors. We’re dedicated to delivering care, sustainability, and innovation wherever possible within Flok. Whether that’s something as simple as moveable whiteboards or free sanitary products, or as forward-thinking as vertical farming to supply our café.
“At every stage, we want Flok to deliver world class facilities to the talented people of Teesside. It’s the space that businesses need.”
